Apprenticeships in Multi-Academy Trusts

Turn your levy into skills across the Trust.

NCE works alongside central trust teams to convert the apprenticeship levy into shared, trust-wide capability across every phase and provision type, one partner, one dashboard, one levy strategy, whether you operate three schools or thirty.

The workforce reality

The pressures we hear from multi-academy trusts most.

Every partnership starts with a clear-eyed conversation about what is actually broken, not a generic apprenticeship pitch.

01

Levy sits stranded across the trust

Most trusts under-spend their combined levy because activity is siloed by school. A trust-wide plan releases funding that would otherwise expire back to the Treasury after 24 months, or 12 months if added after 31st July 2026.

02

Every academy has different priorities

Central teams must offer shared provision without ignoring the phase, community and improvement journey of each school. Off-the-shelf simply does not land.

03

Central-team capacity is finite

HR, finance and CPD leads are already stretched. A partner that owns the DAS admin, funding claims and evidence matters more than any brochure.

04

Boards and members expect measurable ROI

Trustees, members and finance committees expect year-on-year evidence that levy investment moves retention, outcomes and equalities data across the estate.

How we work with you

A four-step partnership, not a sales pipeline.

Step 01

Discovery

A structured workforce conversation with your executive team, people strategy, priorities, levy forecast and constraints.

Step 02

Design

We map standards to your roles across every academy, agree the cohort model and set the delivery calendar around your trust rhythm.

Step 03

Delivery

Blended, in-role learning with subject mentors, dedicated tutors and evidence built through real practice, not busywork.

Step 04

Impact

Quarterly impact reviews against the outcomes you agreed at Discovery, board-ready reporting on levy, learners and progression.

What we bring

Built around how multi-academy trusts actually operate.

Why now

Why the moment matters for MATs

The 2024/25 funding reforms have changed what's possible - and what's expected from your workforce. Budgets are tighter. Statutory demands haven't gone away. This is the moment to plan differently.

Outcomes you can plan around

Measurable impact on the metrics that matter to you.

Every partnership is underpinned by an outcomes framework agreed at the start, so you can report impact back to boards, members and elected officials with confidence.

Most requested by multi-academy trusts

Fully funded apprenticeships paired to your sector.

“As a large MAT, we feel that colleagues joining the trust at an early stage of their career should have no reason to have to go anywhere else if we're providing them with opportunities to learn and to further develop their career, and the apprenticeships are a really key part of that. ”

Sector FAQs

The questions multi-academy trusts ask us most.

Can you consolidate our reporting into one trust-wide dashboard?+
Yes. Every trust partnership includes a consolidated dashboard covering levy spend, learner status, off-the-job compliance and impact metrics across every academy in scope, ready for board and members.
How do you handle differences between primary and secondary academies?+
Cohorts are grouped by phase or specialism where it matters (for example EYFS, SEND, secondary curriculum) and blended where it does not (leadership, safeguarding, operations). You get the benefits of scale without a one-size-fits-all offer.
Do you support levy transfer to non-levy schools we partner with?+
Yes. We advise on Apprenticeship Levy Transfer both within the trust and outward to partner schools and community employers, with full documentation and evidence for your DfE reporting.
Who is our day-to-day contact?+
One named partnership lead, a senior member of our team, supported by a delivery director. Both are contactable throughout the term, and neither is a rotating account manager.
How quickly can a cohort start?+
Most trust cohorts move from Discovery to first learning session inside eight weeks. Urgent starts, driven by a September or January window, can be turned around faster where DAS access is already in place.
Are you Ofsted regulated?+
Yes. NCE is the trading name of Captiva Learning, an ESFA-listed main provider on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP) and is inspected under the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework for FE and Skills.
