What will I learn?

  • Assess individual needs and develop targeted action plans and interventions to support positive outcomes.
  • Build employer and stakeholder partnerships to create meaningful employment and progression opportunities.
  • Use labour market information to provide relevant careers and employability guidance.
  • Apply safeguarding, Prevent and professional standards when supporting learners and vulnerable individuals.

How is it delivered?

  • Flexible Spotlight Sessions and self-paced digital learning, supported by Quarterly 'Ask the Expert' podcasts and personalised coaching
  • Practical, role-focused learning through the PRIME Learning Model, connecting learning to real-world application, inclusion            and impact.
  • Dedicated support from a named Professional Learning Mentor          and workplace mentor throughout the programme.
  • Workplace portfolio evidence built through practical activities and professional practice.
  • A minimum of six hours per week of protected off-the-job learning, recorded in Aptem.
  • Gateway review and dedicated End-Point Assessment preparation to support you through your final assessment.

What do I need?

  • A relevant role that allows you to work directly with service users, manage caseloads and deliver employability or careers support.
  • Opportunities to apply your learning through workplace activities, interventions, guidance and professional practice.
  • Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent) for learners aged 16–18; Functional Skills are optional for learners aged 19+.
  • Right to work in the UK and meet the eligibility requirements for apprenticeship funding
  • Employer support to provide protected off-the-job learning time and opportunities to gather workplace evidence

What is the Employability Practitioner Apprenticeship?

Every school, college and education setting needs skilled professionals who can make careers provision meaningful and impactful. This programme provides a practical development pathway for careers, employability and learner support professionals, with learning applied directly to your role and workplace.

Over 15 months, you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to strengthen careers provision and support positive learner progression. You’ll explore labour market information, employer engagement, personalised guidance, coaching and mentoring, safeguarding and supporting learners with different needs and barriers. Your learning is applied through workplace practice, helping you turn new knowledge into meaningful outcomes for learners.

The flexible delivery model is designed around busy education settings. Self-paced Spotlight Sessions are complemented by quarterly Ask the Expert podcasts, personalised coaching and ongoing support from your Professional Learning Mentor, giving you the flexibility to learn, apply and develop alongside your existing role.

Levy transfers depend on partner availability and can't be guaranteed on every enrolment. As your training provider we'll pursue every funding route available, co-investment, transfer partnerships and incentive payments, so your workforce journey is as cost-effective as possible.

Cost & funding

How much does the Employability Practitioner apprenticeship cost?

£6,000 fully funded through the employer's Apprenticeship Levy, £0 to the learner for training, coaching or assessment.

Non-levy employers access the same apprenticeship through government co-investment, the government funds 95%, leaving a 5% employer contribution (£300 on the £6,000 band). Levy transfer from a larger partner employer is also available and NCE can help identify partners.
